All The Bright Lights
All The Bright Lights are a rock band with shoegaze tendencies or a shoegaze band with rock tendencies from Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC. It's a great album to design to, for sure, with great "aural soundscapes." good stuff. i took the photos in nyc last year standing at the southwest entrance to central park just as the sun was going down behind the buildings.
The Music Video Show
Another round of style frames for a show that didn't quite make it: canceled before it hit the cable box.
Short Sighted
i've done a bunch of style frames for show packages lately. some have been produced, some haven't. here's one from the vault for a show called "short-sighted" about indie filmaking.
Halogen
recently i've had the opportunity to design the look and feel of a television network that's launching nationally this fall, halogen. their tagline is, "socially conscious, empowering, entertainment." basically it's a channel dedicated to social justice, art and entertainment. it's definitely a cool concept. they'll be showing documentaries, indie films and reality shows that focus on enriching society.
i designed the look and feel of the original launch style and collaborated with david stanfield on the logo. basically, he designed the icon and i designed the logotype. for the "field guide," a print piece that communicates to producers and investors, we were able to make use of some cool printing techniques like an overall aqueous matte finish. On the cover, i went with a spot aqueous gloss over the matte to get a nice texture and look.
Oh, Mercy!
here's a free handset font i developed for a couple specific projects a while back. it was one
of those days when i really couldn't find exactly what i was looking for so i just decided to make it. it's a bit tech and a bit folksy. like bob dylan in the eighties. it's "oh mercy."
i've made "oh mercy" available for download here as an eps file. again, it's handset so it can get tedious if you've got lots of type, but hey...it's free.
John Mark McMillan: The Medicine
Here is the CD packaging design for John Mark McMillan's Medicine album. This was part of an overall advertising campaign that included vinyl sleeve art, t-shirts, posters, pop cards and web and print ads. All the photography was done by John Mark's brother, Andy McMillan
Public Radio
public radio is one of my favorite local bands that i hope isn't local for much longer, if you know what i mean. actually i feel that way about the charlotte scene in general. so many great artists+musicians here...
this ep was recorded in germany, produced by cannon hill founder, nicholas balachandran. the whole feel is very southern rock meets european sensibilities so i tried to continue that vibe with the packaging. if you have a chance to hear these guys live, by the way, you should do so.The Embers
the embers are a group from kentucky who do alt-country/rock, so i wanted to give them a design that balanced the feel of country and a something a bit more modern. so i set it up on a grid and gave it the swiss treatment. the photographs were taken in kentucky in the middle of july, when it was humid and hot.
Mixx Master's Lounge
mixx master's lounge is a hip-hop show produced and taped here in charlotte. in 2008 i did all the advertising and graphics for them. the package included broadcast, web and print. here are some of the promotion cards i developed.
Rock Show
this is a postcard design i did for a local show at tremont music hall featuring public radio, flagship brigade and john mark mcmillan. i took the shot in uptown charlotte with a nikon d90."
The Uprising
the uprising is a reality show that follows pro skateboarders/pastors christian hosoi, brian sumner and jay haizlip. It's produced in california by eliot rausch, among others. It's an interesting show, to say the least and it's gotten some press from places like nightline.
i designed the logo, graphic elements and basic style and then applied it to print and web. the motion graphics piece to the show was a collaboration with motion graphic designer josh hollars. pictured above is the van wrap and subsequent ads i did for thrasher and transworld skateboarding magazines.
